Antonino La Vela

Antonino La Vela is an Italian contemporary artist and art writer based in Chieri (Turin), Italy. This website is the editorial home of writing: interviews, essays, and long-form hubs on contemporary art, eco-art, ecofeminism, queer and LGBTQ+ perspectives, activist art, and the politics of visibility.

The official artist portfolio is here: antoninolavela.com. This page clarifies the relationship between the two sites and collects the official links to follow my work.

Artist and writer

I work between conceptual painting and critical writing. The studio and the page are not separate disciplines: they are two ways of staying inside reality with clarity, tenderness, and resistance, especially where injustice, vulnerability, and political erasure try to become normal.

Thinkism

Over time, this conviction became what I call Thinkism: an approach where conceptual weight is as important as surface. Painting becomes a form of critical writing, and writing becomes a way of making images. Each work remains an open question, not a decoration.

Writing and interviews

Alongside the studio practice, I publish interviews and critical texts. The editorial direction focuses on long-term dialogue with artists and thinkers, and on the cultural mechanisms that shape who is seen, who is protected, and who is erased.
