Flashback Habitat

Flashback Habitat Torino is an independent art centre and cultural ecosystem located in Corso Giovanni Lanza 75 in Turin. Created in 2022 within a complex of approximately 20,000 square metres, it brings together exhibitions, artists’ studios, residencies, associations, public programmes, music, cinema, talks, and social spaces.

Flashback Habitat developed from the wider Flashback project, founded in Turin in 2013 around the principle that “all art is contemporary.” Rather than separating artworks according to rigid historical categories, the project encourages dialogue between ancient, modern, and contemporary art, examining how objects from different periods continue to produce meaning in the present.

The complex is organised across several pavilions. Pavilion A hosts artists, cultural associations, studios, and residencies, while Pavilion B is dedicated to exhibitions and serves as the venue for Flashback Art Fair. Pavilion C contains Il Circolino, a space for food, music, talks, cinema, and cultural encounters, while the surrounding park extends the programme into an open-air environment.

The site was formerly home to the Provincial Institute for Childhood of Turin. Its transformation into an art centre therefore connects cultural regeneration with the memory of the people who once inhabited the buildings. Exhibitions, archival research, and participatory projects recover these histories while questioning how abandoned places can acquire new social and cultural functions.

Flashback Habitat approaches art not only as an object to be displayed but as a living process capable of activating relationships between people, places, and different forms of knowledge. Its programme combines historical art, contemporary practices, community participation, and urban regeneration, turning the former institutional complex into a shared environment where art and everyday life continuously intersect.
