Jenny Holzer

Jenny Holzer is an American conceptual artist who uses language as her primary material. Since distributing the anonymous Truisms across New York in the late 1970s, she has placed provocative statements on LED displays, electronic signs, stone benches, buildings and public monuments.

This archive explores Holzer’s text-based installations, projections and major series, including Inflammatory Essays, Lustmord and works created from declassified government documents. Addressing war, sexual violence, censorship, surveillance and political authority, her practice reveals how language can function simultaneously as information, propaganda, testimony and resistance.
